Job Offer Abroad Comparison Calculator — Compare Two Offers Side by Side
A bigger headline salary abroad isn't always the better deal once tax, bonus structure and relocation support are factored in. Enter both offers side by side — gross salary, signing bonus, relocation allowance and your estimated tax/deduction rate for each country — and see the real annual value of each.
A first-year cash comparison only — it doesn't include cost-of-living differences. Run our Cost of Living Comparison Calculator too before deciding.
How to use this tool
- Convert both offers into a single currency using the current exchange rate before entering numbers.
- Fill in gross salary, any signing bonus, relocation allowance, and your best estimate of tax + mandatory deductions for each country.
- Press Compare — you'll see net annual salary and total first-year value (which includes one-time bonus/relocation) for each.
- Use our Cost of Living Comparison Calculator next to adjust for how far that money actually goes in each city.
Frequently asked questions
Why does year one look different from ongoing years?
Signing bonuses and relocation allowances are usually one-time. The 'first-year total' includes them, but from year two onward only the net annual salary applies — this calculator shows both numbers so you're not misled by an inflated first-year figure.
How do I estimate my tax + deductions rate for a country I've never worked in?
Use our take-home pay calculators (US, UK, India, Germany) if the country is covered, or search '[country] income tax calculator' for an estimate. Remember to include mandatory social insurance/pension deductions, not just income tax — in the Gulf there's often 0% income tax but check for other deductions (e.g. GPSSA in UAE for nationals).
Does this account for cost of living differences?
No — deliberately. Mixing salary comparison and cost-of-living adjustment in one number hides what's actually driving the result. Compare net pay here first, then use the Cost of Living Comparison Calculator to see how far that pay goes in each city, and combine the two conclusions yourself.
What other factors should I weigh besides the numbers?
Health insurance value, employer pension matching, annual flight allowances (common in Gulf contracts), school fee allowances for children, contract end-of-service gratuity, and visa sponsorship terms can all be worth thousands per year and aren't captured by a salary-only comparison.
