Image Compressor — Shrink JPG & PNG Without Losing Quality
Large images slow down websites, fill up storage and get rejected by upload forms. This compressor shrinks JPG, PNG and WebP images with an adjustable quality slider — and because it runs entirely in your browser, your photos are never uploaded to any server. Private, instant, free.
How to use this tool
- Drop or choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image — it stays on your device, nothing is uploaded.
- Adjust the quality slider (80% is a good balance) and pick an output format.
- Press Compress to see the original vs new size and how much you saved.
- Download the smaller image with one click.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No — everything happens inside your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device, which makes this both private and instant. You can even use it offline once the page has loaded.
What's the best format to compress to?
For photos, JPG gives the smallest files. WebP is even smaller at similar quality and is supported by all modern browsers. Use PNG only when you need a transparent background or perfectly lossless graphics/logos.
Why did my PNG barely get smaller?
PNG is lossless, so quality settings have limited effect. To meaningfully shrink a photo saved as PNG, convert it to JPG or WebP using the format dropdown — you'll often cut the size by 70–90%.
Will compressing reduce the image dimensions?
No, this keeps the same width and height and reduces file size through quality/format. If you also need smaller dimensions (e.g. for a profile photo), use our Image Resizer first, then compress.
Is there a file size or count limit?
There's no artificial limit, but very large images (50MP+) use more of your device's memory since processing is local. For normal photos and screenshots it's instant.
